The Southern Shores Fire Department is inviting local residents to get a firsthand look at the fire service through its six-week Citizens Fire Academy.
The academy will meet on Saturdays from September 26 through October 31, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Southern Shores Fire Station, located at 15 S. Dogwood Trail.
Designed to give the community an inside perspective on emergency response, the program offers participants hands-on experience with firefighter equipment, instruction in lifesaving emergency medical skills, and tours of fire trucks and rescue apparatus. Attendees will also observe real firefighter training and meet the local emergency personnel serving the community.
The program is free and open to individuals ages 16 and older. Because space is limited, early registration is encouraged. Interested participants can sign up online through the Citizens Fire Academy Registration Form via Google, or call (252) 261-2272.
