The Outer Banks Life Recipe of the Week is combining the nationwide celebration of Chicken Wing Day on July 29 with peak peach season in the Tar Heel State: Hot Honey Peach Chicken Wings.
These crispy baked wings are tossed in a homemade hot honey peach glaze that’s equal parts sweet, spicy, and tangy. Serving a total of four, they’re a unique addition to backyard cookouts, beach gatherings, or appetizer ahead of your favorite televised sports game!
Ingredients
For the wings:
- 2 pounds chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
For the glaze:
- 2 ripe peaches, peeled and diced
- â…“ cup honey
- 2 tablespoons hot sauce (more if desired)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.
- Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. In a large bowl, toss the wings with baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Arrange them in a single layer on the wire rack.
- Bake for 25 minutes. Flip the wings and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until crispy and golden brown.
- While the wings are baking, make the glaze. Add the peaches, honey, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, butter, and garlic to a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the peaches soften and the sauce thickens slightly. Use the back of a spoon to mash some of the peaches for a chunkier glaze, or blend for a smoother consistency.
- Remove the wings from the oven and toss them in the warm peach glaze until evenly coated.
- Return the glazed wings to the oven for 5 minutes to caramelize the sauce.
- Garnish with chopped parsley or sliced green onions and serve immediately.
