Local women’s club participates in General Federation of Women’s Clubs International Day of Service

The Roanoke Island Woman’s Club joined the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) in recognizing Saturday, September 26, 2026, as the GFWC International Day of Service: Help End Domestic and Sexual Violence.

The Roanoke Island Woman’s Club will participate in this event by providing festive food for children at the Hotline Outer Banks Shelter. RIWC will supply everything needed to make celebration cakes, including candles and napkins, as well as a variety of cereals for the children.

GFWC is committed to addressing domestic violence issues year-round. The GFWC International Day of Service unites all GFWC clubs, states, regions, and international affiliates behind a shared mission. When we come together on one day with one purpose, the impact creates a powerful ripple effect of hope, safety, and support in communities everywhere. The GFWC International Day of Service encourages women’s clubs across the world to increase awareness and prevent the widespread occurrence of domestic abuse and sexual violence in their communities.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is a unifying force, bringing together local women’s clubs dedicated to strengthening their communities and enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. With more than 60,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state and several countries, GFWC members are community leaders who work locally to create global change by supporting the arts, preserving natural resources, advancing education, promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging civic involvement, and working toward world peace and understanding.
