‘Give Like Dolly’ this 9/25: Support early childhood literacy in Dare County

In honor of “Give Like Dolly [Parton] Day” on Friday, September 25, a date now recognized in celebration of the late music icon and her legendary song “9 to 5”, Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County are inviting the community to carry on Parton’s lasting legacy of gifting young children with the power of literacy.

Parton launched Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in 1995 as a tribute to her father, whose inability to read or write profoundly impacted her early life, inspiring her to ensure children everywhere grew up surrounded by books.

Following Parton’s passing in August after a battle with cancer, Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County is encouraging local residents to honor her philanthropic legacy by contributing to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Dare County. The program delivers a free, high-quality book each month directly to enrolled children from birth to age 5.

Community members can support the initiative by visiting darekids.org/donate and designating their contribution to “Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library”.

Families with children under 5 residing in Dare County can enroll in the free monthly book program at smartstart.org/dpil.
