Dare County Library calls on community for 7th annual food drive

The Dare County Library will host its 7th annual food drive throughout October, inviting community members to donate nonperishable food items to support local pantries across the region.

From October 1-31, 2026, residents can drop off food donations at any Dare County Library branch during regular operating hours. All collected items will remain in the local area to assist residents facing food insecurity.

Donations collected at each library location will directly benefit specific community pantries:

  • Hatteras Library: Benefiting the Hatteras Island Food Pantry

  • Kill Devil Hills Library: Benefiting the Beach Food Pantry

  • Manteo Library: Benefiting the Roanoke Island Food Pantry

“Every donation helps make a difference for our neighbors,” the library system said in a statement launching the monthlong drive.

Recommended nonperishable items include canned goods, boxed meals, dry pasta, peanut butter, and pantry staples.

For additional information or to view the official event flyer, visit the Dare County Library website or contact your local branch.
