The World Surf League (WSL) East Coast leg heads south for the opening day of the WRV Outer Banks Pro Presented by Pacifico, a men’s Qualifying Series (QS) 2,000-level event, beginning September 3 through 6. A staple QS event, the WRV Outer Banks Pro returns as a pivotal stop to provide a spark in the men’s Challenger Series qualification race.
Event organizers will convene at 6:30 a.m. EDT to decide on a possible start time for the morning’s schedule.
Cannon Carr Returns For Event Title Defense
Fresh off a fourth-career QS Final, Cannon Carr (USA) returns to the WRV Outer Banks Pro in search of more East Coast success. Carr’s defining victory in 2025 cemented him as a certified Challenger Series qualification threat, and now he enters his event title defense as No. 2 on the rankings. With a full season ahead, the 20-year-old is keeping his goals at the forefront and enjoying each new opportunity.
“I’m stoked to go back to the Outer Banks. For some reason, I feel like I always do good on the East Coast. It’s easy for me just feeling like I’m at home, and I love it, especially OBX,” said Carr. “I’m looking forward to heading down, and the pressure is off after getting a result in Virginia Beach, which was a QS 4,000. It’s such a fun trip, and I’ve got my brother with me, and we usually stay about 20 minutes away, fish a lot, grind out some heats, and just enjoy it all.”
Wheeler Hasburgh Looks For His Spark After A Final Appearance in 2025
One of the region’s proven contenders, Wheeler Hasburgh (CAN) already has a QS victory to his name after an iconic win at the Cabarete Pro in 2024. The Canadian representative, Hasburgh, nearly clinched a second victory in 2025 before finishing runner-up, and has unfinished business as he looks to kickstart his 2026/2027 season with a big result.
“I’m really excited. I really connect to OBX, the waves remind me of the waves at home in Sayulita, Mexico. I’ve done this event the last couple of years, and I’ve gotten my best results at this event, so I love it,” said Hasburgh. “The experience I have there helps because the OBX banks shift around a lot and the wave has this soft power to tap into. And everyone is ripping, which fires me up too, so I’m ready to go for the win this week. I’ve been putting a lot of work into my surfing these last few years. Competing is my favorite thing to do, and I can’t see myself anywhere else. I’ve got my eyes on the rest of the season to surge up the rankings. A result here puts me in the hunt for the Challenger Series, and that’s the road to the CT. That’s the dream, and I’m going after it.”

Heavyweight Men’s Contingent Is OBX Inbound
Following the Virginia Beach Pro, the men’s contingent looks to keep their momentum surging south at Jennette’s Pier with some of the region’s best locked in for action. Current Challenger Series contenders Luke Guinaldo(USA), Jett Schilling (USA), and Lucas Owston (USA) join the likes of current No. 1 Kyan Yang (USA), recently crowned North America Pro Junior Regional champ Teo Gale Grani (PAN), former event victor and East Coast icon Michael Dunphy (USA), and more, ready to push the standard at Jennette’s Pier.
